05/27/2011 12:00 AMOld Saybrook’s voters voiced overwhelming support of the town and schools budgets. In the May 26 referendum, the town’s voters approved both the town government and school budget questions by a margin of four to one in very light voter turnout. Fewer than eight percent of the town’s 7,331 registered voters voiced their opinions.
On the town government budget question, 456 votes were cast in favor of budget approval while 104 votes were cast against approval. The school budget question was approved with a total 440 votes in support of the budget versus 115 votes against it.
Only nine votes were cast by property owners eligible to vote because they own property rather than because they are a registered town voter.
