Rep. Albis: Backs Health Care Pooling Bill That Clears Final Committee Hurdle
State Representative James Albis (D-East Haven) voted for a health care pooling bill Thursday that was passed by the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee that means municipalities like East Haven and nonprofits are a step closer to significant savings on their health care costs.
Rep. Albis is a member of the committee.
“Towns like East Haven, other communities, and non-profit organizations under this bill will have the opportunity to realize cost savings while providing families with greater access to health care,” Rep. Albis said. “This legislation is not a mandate. Local officials can examine the pooling program and decide for themselves if their towns should participate. It is voluntary.”
Rep. Albis explained that a prescription drug pooling bill that became law last year is expected to save the City of Hartford $1.8 million in annual employee prescription costs through joining that pool.
“Pooling initiatives can help our cities and towns and families save money,” Rep. Albis said. “Now that we have a Democratic governor, we can pass pooling legislation knowing it will be signed into law and will make a difference in the lives of many people.”
Rep. Albis serves on the Judiciary, Banks, and Finance, Revenue, and Bonding committees.
