05/11/2011 12:00 AMClinton beach-goers are expected to have a nice, new concession stand and wash room just in time for summer.
At an April 28 ground-breaking ceremony, First Selectman Willie Fritz met with members of the Beach Building Committee and designer William B. Aniskovich to support the start of the new Beach Building, which is projected to be completed by the end of June, Fritz said.
Present at the ceremony were Parks & Recreation Committee Chair Joe Schettino, Harry Swaun, Peggy Adler, Aniskovich, Fritz, and Parks & Recreation Director Robert Potter.
The overall cost for the Beach Building is $120,000, as was passed in an April 6 referendum. The town received a Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant from the state to build a new concession stand and bath house on the town beach. The bond funding will be in addition to the grant.
The town has hired the WBA Group as the design and development group for the project. The WBA Group is a provider of site planning, landscape architecture, and athletic facility design and has done work for the town before. The building itself is going to be a multi-purpose concession stand/restroom house.
Contracts for plumbing, electrical, and contractor have been awarded for the Beach Building and were accepted by the Board of Selectmen on April 13, after a "lengthy" bidding process.
According to the Nov. 20 minutes from the joint Parks & Recreation Commission and Town Beach Committee meeting, the two groups accepted the $164,640 bid from Thompson General Contractors, the $28,000 bid from Acorn-Bernier Electric, and the $33,550 bid from Star Plumbing. A bid for the septic system had already been accepted.
The digging for the project began on April 28.
