03/10/2011 11:00 PMNorth Haven First Selectman Michael J. Freda has formally announced his candidacy for a second term in office. Freda is supported by the Republican Town Committee and is expected to receive their endorsement at its convention to be held in July.
"I have been privileged and honored to serve the fine citizens of the Town of
North Haven for these past 15 months, and I am determined to continue the progress that we have made in an effort to move North Haven forward into a very bright future," Freda stated.
During his first term in office, Freda has worked toward positioning the Town for future economic growth.
"I have immersed myself into the economic development of the town", he states. "I take very seriously the importance of being involved with economic development, working with commercial real estate agents, developers and businesses daily to ignite future development in an effort to create jobs and minimize the tax burden for our residents."
One example of a project that is just beginning to unfold into reality has been
Freda's work to bring Yale New Haven Hospital to North Haven to create a medical epicenter providing outstanding health care services for the future.
Freda feels very strongly about staying in touch with the residents, hearing their concerns, and enacting programs and policies that will meet their needs and expectations. He strives to keep the residents informed and communicates monthly through his Selectman's Overview at each Board of Selectmen's Meeting where he details operational, financial and economic issues.
"I believe in open and honest communication and offering a high level of customer service from all of our departments," Freda remarked.
Since coming into office, Freda has worked to streamline processes and reduce expenditures and create internal efficiencies. "We are making progress, but there is still much more work to be done," Freda stated.
Freda noted that his campaign will continue to emphasize an optimistic outlook for North Haven's future. "I believe in North Haven," Freda said. "I believe in our people, our programs and in our services that make the Town of North Haven most desirable to live, work, invest, and raise a family.
