Three Fleeing Shoplifters Arrested in Old Saybrook
Alert CVS employees called police to report electronic items being stolen from their store at 519 Boston Post Road on Jan. 5. The employees provided an accurate description of the suspects and their getaway vehicle. Seconds after being alerted a patrol sergeant saw the vehicle fleeing Old Saybrook on Interstate 95 driving towards New Haven. The sergeant stopped the vehicle on I-95 and was backed up by Connecticut State Police Troop F and other Old Saybrook police officers. The suspects were identified and arrested without incident. All the stolen items were located in the vehicle and included small digital TVs, portable DVD players, iPod docks, electric razors, and other electronic devices valued at more than $1,000.
Arrested were Patrick Shea, 30, of 292 Grove Beach Road, Westbrook and Elias Maldonado, 32, of 210 Exchange Street, New Haven. Each was charged with fourth degree larceny. Claudia Campos, 37, of 903 Franklin Street, New Haven, was charged with conspiracy to commit fourth degree larceny. Each was held on a $10,000 bond.
During the investigation, it was learned the three arrested individuals are suspects in similar crimes on the shoreline and the New Haven area.
