Late Saturday afternoon Nov. 13, Old Saybrook Police Detectives arrived at Bradley International Airport from the State of Kansas with a male suspect who is accused of sexually assaulting a juvenile in an Old Saybrook Hotel. The accused, Sean Patrick Murphy, 41, of Junction City, Kan., was arrested for two counts of Sexual Assault in the 2nd Degree and two counts of Risk of Injury to a Minor.

Old Saybrook Police began the intense and comprehensive investigation in late September when they learned that a juvenile had been repeatedly sexually assaulted while staying at a local hotel. Murphy quickly became a person of interest in the investigation. At the time of the assault, Murphy was on leave from his assignment with the U.S. Army, at Fort Riley in Kansas. As the investigation progressed, Murphy was named a suspect and the US Army Criminal Investigative Division was contacted.

Earlier this week, Old Saybrook Police Detective David Perrotti, flew to Kansas to interview Murphy. Murphy chose to confess to the criminal acts that he participated in. Patrolman William Bergantino completed the arrest warrant and extradition request which was signed by Judge Oliver of the Middletown Superior Court. Old Saybrook Police Detective Samuel Barnes then flew to Kansas to join Detective Perrotti.

The Junction City, Kansas Sheriff's Department after being presented with a State of Connecticut Felony Arrest Warrant, arrested Murphy as a Fugitive from Justice. Murphy was then formally turned over to Old Saybrook Police Detectives Barnes and Perrotti in a court proceeding, where he waived extradition, at the District Court of Geary in Junction City, Kan.

Murphy is being held at the Old Saybrook Police Department on $250,000 bond and will be presented in Middletown Superior Court on Monday, Nov. 15.
