Deep River Voters Approve Budget 174 to 69

Town voters (or at least 243 of the more than 3,000 eligible voters) approved the proposed $14 million budget for the next fiscal year on May 25 in a townwide referendum. As a result of the approval, the Board of Finance is expected to set a flat mill rate, reflecting no tax increase for the third year in a row.Total $13,985,007

Overall, when the two education budgets are included with the town budget, the total budget represents a spending decrease of $23,501 when compared to this year's budgets. First Selectman Dick Smith said he is recommending no increase to the tax rate for the next fiscal year. That decision, however, is made by the Board of Finance, which meets later tonight.

The approved budget for the 2010-2011 fiscal year is:

Deep River Elementary School $ 4,920,203

Region 4 Schools/Local Share $ 4,420,975

General Government $ 4,643,829
