05/05/2010 12:00 AMIn a special meeting convened last night, the six-member Clinton Board of Finance (BOF) corrected a procedural mistake it made at its April 19 meeting when a tie vote was deemed an affirmative vote.
“A three to three tie vote does not mean the motion passed,” said First Selectman William “Willie” Fritz. “This did not translate into an affirmative vote.”
The vote was to carry the $46.7 million proposed 2010-2011 fiscal year budget forward to a referendum vote as presented. The referendum is scheduled for May 12.
The second vote, held last night, had similar results but was clearly an affirmative vote of five members of the BOF voting in favor of sending the budget, as is, to referendum versus one vote opposed.
The only member of the finance board who voted against the motion was Ona Nejdl, who surprised all in attendance including her own board by expressing her disgust at hearing anti-semitic comments during an April 7 well-attended public hearing. No other board member agreed with Nejdl and many stated they heard no such remarks.
The budget referendum vote is scheduled for Wednesday, May 12 with voting conducted from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Andrews Memorial Town Hall for all voters, electors, and others qualified to vote in a referendum.
