Branford Police Deliver Baby Boy

Monday, just after 3 a.m., a motor vehicle exited I-95 southbound and dialed 911 for medical assistance. Branford Polcie Department Press Release

Branford Police Officers Brian McGinnis and Philip Ramey immediately located the vehicle and found a pregnant woman and her husband on the entrance ramp. The officers learned that the couple was enroute to the hospital where the woman was hopeful of delivering her second child. That desire was unfortunately not going to come to fruition as the mother told officers that she felt that the child was coming sooner than expected.

Fortunately for the couple, McGinnis was an experience Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and maintains his skills as an ambulance attendant for American Medical Response. With the help of Ramey, McGinnis assisted the mother delivering the baby boy at 3:12 a.m.

Within moments, Branford Fire Department Paramedics Paul Cipriani and Dan Kunze arrived and continued with medical treatment of the baby and mother. Both were eventually transported to Yale New Haven Hospital for further evaluation.

"I would like to congratulate the parents and on the birth of their baby boy" said Chief John DeCarlo. "I hope that the boy and his family enjoy a healthy and happy life."
