Branford Police detectives and officers assigned to a newly formed, proactive, crime-suppression initiative referred to as MATRIX arrested four Branford residents and searched three Branford homes on Thursday, Jan. 14 and Friday, Jan. 15, according to a recent press release.Dominick Rosa, 18, of 146 North Ivy Street, Apt. 24, Branford, was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana with intent to sell within 1,500 feet of a school, illegal cultivation of marijuana, operating a drug factory, possession of more than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of marijuana within 1,500 feet of a school. Rosa was booked released on a written promise to appear in New Haven Court on Jan. 26. Also arrested was a 17 year-old Branford resident who was charged with assorted drug charges.

MATRIX officers also located what was described as a “drug factory” at 51 Montoya Circle on Friday evening, Jan. 15, while serving arrests warrants for Steven Hawley, 19, of 22 Woodlawn Avenue, Branford, reported the Branford Police Department.

“While our MATRIX officers were serving the warrant on Hawley, they observed drugs and other evidence in plain view at the home of Abrielle Ulbrich (18-years-old),” said Chief John DeCarlo.

“I anticipate other associated criminal arrests, such as this, to surface as these proactive officers continue to capture those that are wanted and attempting to avoid the Criminal Justice system,” added DeCarlo.

Ulbrich was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to Ssell and operating a drug factory. Ulbrich posted a $2,500 bond and was scheduled to appear in New Haven Superior Court on Jan. 26.

In addition to the charges associated with his outstanding warrants, Hawley was additionally charged with possession of marijuana. Hawley was held on associated bonds.
