12/17/2009 11:00 PMLouis Onofrio, 93, World War II Army veteran, received seven tokens of honor last Friday at Apple Rehab nursing home in Guilford. Already the recipient of the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal for his service in Okinawa as a staff sergeant, Onofrio received additional recognition when his daughter Sylvia Onofrio-Baker and members of the American Legion Post 79 obtained for him the Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal & Japan Clasp, National Defense Service Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, and Marksman Badge & Rifle Bar. Post 79 members who attended the ceremony included Post Commander George Delmhurst and Post Officer Anthony Lazzari (shown saluting) and Senior Chief Dennis Macnamara joined by Senior Vice Commander Army Lt. Col. Ralph Garcia and many proud members of the Onofrio family, including Julia Onofrio, Louis's wife of almost 70 years.
