by Edward Burns
This debut novel is as good as Burns’ brilliant filmmaking! Our almost 13-year-old narrator shares life stories, confused feelings, and various emotions coming of age in an Irish American family on Long Island. I laughed out loud throughout while also remembering the awkwardness of that time. Burns is known for drawing from his own family members and memories in his work and that authenticity is evident on each page. I couldn’t get enough and just wanted it to keep going page after page.
