It is hard to find a book that is funny, smart, engaging, and thought-provoking, yet that is just what Betsy Lerner has done with her superb new novel. It is easily one of my favorite fiction books of the last few years. Her book delves into two topics that envelope most of our families: the fraught, loving, and complicated relationship of sisters—and, secondly, the role mental illness plays in creating tension, conflicted senses of love, and ultimately, both hope and hopelessness.
