Turkey Trot Returns for 45th Running
The Madison Jaycees will once again welcome all runners and walkers to the 45th annual Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale Turkey Trot being held on Thanksgiving morning, Thursday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m. This annual holiday tradition includes a 5-mile run and a 2-mile family walk that both start and finish on Madison’s town green. Both the run and walk courses feature scenic views of Long Island Sound and Madison’s beautiful waterfront neighborhood. Runners looking to set a new personal record will also appreciate the flat, fast 5-mile course. The first 2,500 entrants receive a long-sleeved commemorative tee shirt and age group prizes are provided for the 5-mile run competitors.
The Lenny & Joe’s Fish Tale Turkey Trot has been a holiday tradition for many residents of Madison and its neighboring towns, with some families’ participants consisting of two and three generations to kick off their turkey day. The Trot has also served as a reunion of sorts for college students and former town residents alike. It is a highlight of the Madison Jaycees annual fund-raising events, and this fun event culminates with a great post-race party including some of the best clam chowder in the state, bagels, coffee, fruit, yogurt, and a beer truck.
The Turkey Trot not only provides community fellowship but is the largest fundraiser for the Madison Jaycees. The proceeds from the event get redistributed in the Shoreline community to support local food pantries, student scholarships, and providing emergency funds to families hit with hardships. Over the past 10 years, the Jaycees have given over $500,000 to shoreline charities and families.
We encourage everyone to come out and join the fun on Thanksgiving morning and support the Jaycees in their mission. Trot along with your family and friends and create or continue a great Thanksgiving Tradition!
