Make Me the Sky

Make Me the Sky

by Joan Wexler

A young teenage immigrant leaves her Yiddish-speaking community in Eastern Europe for the poverty-stricken Lower East Side a few years before WWI. She writes her story in her diary in lieu of talking with her twin sister, who was too ill to come with her. This riveting and historically accurate story is reminiscent in voice and tone of the Diary of Anne Frank and would be a wonderful precursor to a trip to the Tenement Museum some weekend.
