09/14/2023 09:14 AMThe First Congregational Church of Guilford’s “Joyful Noise!” has announced the return of Shoreline Soul’s holiday workshop and concert, directed by Angela Clemmons. Singers of all levels are invited to participate in the five two-hour workshop sessions, culminating in a hand-clapping, faith-boosting, spirit-lifting holiday concert, where the participants will perform the soulful, gospel renditions of Christmas songs, along with traditional and contemporary gospel songs that they will have learned. This event is part of Shoreline Soul’s 20-year anniversary celebration.
“Our sessions are upbeat, fun and very user-friendly. No one needs to know how to read music. All songs are taught by ear and everyone is given guide-vocal recordings to practice between sessions. Because it’s all about the music and not a church service, we get singers from all faiths - even the faith-less,” says Clemmons.
There will be five Monday sessions, Oct. 16, Oct. 23, Nov. 6, Nov. 20, and Dec. 4, from 6:45 to 8:45 p.m. The holiday concert, which is free and open to the public, will be Sunday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. with a pre-concert rehearsal at 1:30 p.m. All sessions will be at the First Congregational Church (on the town green), 122 Broad Street, Guilford.
The workshop registration fee is $95.00. The early registration fee, if paid by Oct. 2, is $85.00. Some scholarships are available. For registration details, e-mail shorelinesoul@gmail.com or call 203-619-1415 (mobile). Although the workshop is primarily for adults, youth who are able to follow a lyric sheet are welcome to participate. No audition is necessary.
