Music at the Meetinghouse Presents Charter Oak Brass Band

Music at the Meetinghouse will host the Charter Oak Brass Band on Sunday, Oct. 1, at 4 p.m. at the First Congregational Church sanctuary, 26 Meetinghouse Lane, Madison. Tickets are $15 and will be sold at the door.

The Charter Oak Brass Band, a 28-piece musical ensemble, will be led by Dr. Daniel D'Addio. Based on the British brass band model, the group combines cornets, flugelhorn, tenor and baritone horns, euphoniums, trombones, tubas, and percussion to produce a unique and dramatic sound. The British brass band tradition started during the Industrial Revolution when many companies in England sponsored their own musical groups as a recreational diversion for their employees. Over time, the bands evolved into highly skilled, professional-caliber ensembles. British-style brass bands have become part of the American musical scene as well.
