Meet the Megafauna!

Gabrielle Balkan, the author of Meet the Megafauna!: Get to Know 20 of the Largest Animals to Ever Roam the Earth, illustrated by Phùng Nguyên Quang and Huỳnh Kim Liên, will visit R.J. Julia Booksellers, 768 Boston Post Road, Madison on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. The book includes 10 fold-out gatefolds that give kids a sense of the enormous size of this mostly extinct class of animals, from a 50-foot-long giant snake that could drown a crocodile to a 20-foot-long giant sloth that could uproot a tree. Balkan first learned about megafauna on a field trip to the Indiana State Museum in Indianapolis. She loved walking the dark, quiet halls and liked to imagine befriending a woolly mammoth. She now spends her time visiting museums in the Hudson Valley and New York City.
