All Aboard For a Moby-Dick Marathon

"But shall this crazed old man be tamely suffered to drag a whole ship's company down to doom with him?" Excellent question, Ishmael!! Find out how the story of Moby-Dick ends (spoiler alert: it does not end well for the crazed old man) during a celebration of author Herman Melville’s 204th birthday on Monday, July 31 at noon at Mystic Seaport Museum, 75 Greenmanville Avenue, Mystic. The 24-hour marathon reading of the classic novel is the one time of the year Mystic Seaport allows guests to sleep over on the 1841 whaleship Charles W. Morgan. Other highlights include a chantey performance on board, a whaleboat row in the morning, and more. Reservations are required for overnight participants, and can be made by calling the reservations department at 860-572-5331. Those who don’t have time or attention span for the whole book can join Monday or Tuesday for performances of Moby-Dick in Minutes by the theatrical group, the Tale-Makers. There also will be a Moby-Dick themed craft for kids, a Moby-Dick and the Morgan tour, and more. The event is free with admission. Find out more at www.mysticseaport.org/.
