The House is on Fire sucked me in from the jump with the vivid and horrifying description of the Richmond Theater Fire of 1811. In the days after the fire, we follow as four survivors navigate the chaos of the cleanup and witness how this pivotal event changes the course of their lives. I was truly engrossed in each of the four stories, and I couldn’t put the book down until I knew how Sally, Gilbert, Jack, and Cecily fared.
