04/16/2023 08:29 AMDeath has never been easy to talk about in our culture. The Death Café movement aims to address that. With no agenda, only unstructured conversation, their objective is to increase awareness of death in a supportive way while helping people make the most of their lives. Open discussion can help people address fears and aid in grappling with the reality of death.
Death Café comes to the Connecticut shoreline on Saturday, May 13, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Scranton Library, 801 Boston Post Road, Madison, in the Johnson Community Room. Organizer and Certified Life-Cycle Celebrant Lisa Sarfaty offers this description from the DeathCafe.com website: “A Death Cafe is a group-directed discussion of death with no agenda, objectives or themes. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session. Death Cafes are always offered on a not-for-profit basis, in an accessible, respectful, and confidential space, with no intention of leading people to any conclusion, product, or course of action, and alongside refreshing drinks–and cake!”
Space is limited; those who may have questions or are interested in participating are encouraged to call Lisa at 203-627-3014 or email lisa.sarfaty@gmail.com to reserve a spot.
