Nibbles: Easter and Passover Candy
Both Easter and Passover call for candy. There are chocolate bunnies and jelly beans for Easter, and chocolate-covered marshmallows and chocolate-covered jellies for Passover.
Our housekeeper used to give me Easter baskets and my mother would give me pieces of halvah, finely chopped sugar and almonds that made my little teeth ache it was so sweet. We all grew up with these kinds of treats (okay, not the halvah for most of us), but what I loved most of all were the orange or raspberry jellies and the Barton Almond Kisses. Sometimes I have to look at calendar to figure out where each of these holidays begins, but a visit to a local supermarket this time of year always serves as a reminder. Last week I bought a package of chocolate jellies. I put them in the freezer for safe keeping. But, what do you know, they’re all gone. Could it have been me who ate them all?
