Congratulations
Congratulations to the Garden Club of Madison on their exhibits celebrating the 100th year anniversary of the club. I enjoyed the opening reception at Scranton Library on Oct. 17. The historic timeline of the club was very interesting. I was fascinated to learn about the Club’s Seeds for Britain effort during WWII, and in the1960s, the charity work done at the tuberculosis sanatorium at Harkness and many other community projects. The club plays a key role in educating young and old about the importance of good gardening practices and preserving our environment for future generations.
The exhibit also included beautiful floral arrangements that were inspired by paintings from the Katz collection. Finding the common thread between the paintings and the arrangements was fascinating. It was my first visit to Scranton Library and I was pleasantly surprised by the beauty of the library and could see it is the real heart of the community.
