10/30/2024 08:00 AMI am writing to support Paul Cicarella’s reelection to the State Senate's 34th District.
I am fully aware of the criticism sources regarding Paul’s private life. If Paul were to present a defense this close to an election, it would be viewed as self-serving. Therefore, I’d like to voice the other side of the criticism. Paul was represented by an attorney in the workers’ compensation matter, who was well-versed in this specialty. His lawyer presented all the evidence, and a decision was made. Unfortunately, when a politician has an issue in his personal life, the issues are magnified, and facts are distorted. Frankly, this is why good people don’t run.
Nobody’s life is perfect, and very few people make their way through life without moments of conflict. However, when you are elected and personal conflicts take shape, especially during an election season, embellishment replaces truth, rumors are substituted for reality, and political people take cheap shots. In any lawsuit, reasonable minds can differ, and resorting to the court for resolution is the process in our country as the norm. A judge will listen and ultimately rule based on the law and facts. No one enjoys being embroiled in a lawsuit, whether you are the plaintiff or the defendant.
And, no politician should be judged if they seek redress in court, defend themselves, or assert their rights. Critiquing a politician who avails himself of the same process all others enjoy is unfair and unjust. Our courts are open to everybody, not just non-politicians.
I have known Paul for a long time, and he has demonstrated honesty and integrity as a state senator, as a professional, and as a family man. These are the characteristics of a leader.
Therefore, I fully endorse Paul Cicarella as our senator for the 34th District.
