Fighting to Make Things Easier

As tax collector for the Town of Westbrook, I hear from many people about the cost of living in Connecticut. Whether it’s taxes, groceries, or utility cots, it feels like things get more expensive each day. Thankfully, we have Devin Carney as our State Representative fighting to make things easier for families, seniors, and small businesses in the 23rd District.

With the recent increase in electric costs, Devin sprang into action and demanded a special session to reduce those costs and reduce the public benefits charge. Unfortunately, the majority in Hartford refused to schedule a special session. One of the key components to Devin’s reelection campaign is to work on this issue specifically by overhauling PURA, holding Eversource accountable, and stopping any legislation that would increase rates even further.

Devin works in the financial industry and has served on the Finance, Revenue, and Bonding Committee for eight years, so he has a unique understanding of the impact of taxes and their effect on everyday people. He knows other states might look attractive because of their tax structure, and he wants to make Connecticut more competitive. In his time as our State Representative, he reduced taxes on retirement income, stopped new taxes on various goods and services, and prevented new costs and mandates from being passed onto our community. The last point is key, as it would raise property taxes, which no one wants.

Devin is the fiscally responsible choice, and he has my vote this year. I hope he has yours, too.
