10/16/2024 08:00 AMOne of the many reasons I’m voting for Christine Cohen for another term in the State Senate is her love of and support for protecting our environment. For years, she has supported laws and policies that strengthen our natural wildlife, waterways, and clean air, all of which make me proud of her leadership.
In 2021, Sen. Cohen led the passage of a ban on the “forever chemical” PFAS, which is tied to serious health impacts. This year, she again voted to expand that ban to prevent these chemicals from seeping into a water supply. She played a major role in passing the Connecticut Clean Air Act, which is committed to fighting pollution that can lead to health impacts like asthma. Sen. Cohen voted to support clean energy, ban fracking waste, and make sure we’re not spreading unsafe pesticides.
Sen. Cohen has also been very instrumental in fighting the impacts of climate change in our region. She led the passage of the Long Island Sound’s “Blue Plan,” which will support local businesses and resources as the state sees changes along the coasts and rivers; she also voted to create coastal resiliency programs, which will monitor and respond to storm surges and increases in sea levels statewide. As a creator and co-chair of the Coastal Caucus, we can rest assured she’ll continue focusing on this important cause.
We need leaders who are helping our state prepare for the future, and I’m ecstatic that Senator Cohen is working toward that goal. She’s got my vote on Election Day!
