10/09/2024 08:00 AMOne issue on the minds of many people is retirement, particularly whether one will be able to retire comfortably in Connecticut or have to move in order to stretch each dollar further. Devin Carney understands this predicament and has worked tirelessly to make Connecticut a better state for seniors and retirees.
Devin proposed – and passed – reducing taxes on pensions and IRAs for many people. He has pushed back against tax policies that would hurt taxpayers, such as a statewide property tax and new taxes on income, investments, and services. He always does whatever he can to keep costly state mandates at bay because they would simply cause higher property taxes for those of us on the local level. He also cosponsored legislation to tell the federal government to end the windfall provision on social security, which would help retired teachers.
He is passionate about ensuring seniors have the services they need. He proposed an elder abuse registry that would allow families the ability to screen caretakers more effectively and prevent seniors from being taken advantage of. This past year, he cosponsored critical legislation to improve nursing and home-based care.
Devin cares about the needs of retirees and will continue being an effective legislator for us. I hope you will join me in voting for him this November.
