09/18/2024 08:00 AMAs an elected member of the Board of Finance here in East Haven, I know the importance of working together. In a time where our national politics seem as divisive as ever, it is reassuring to know that our community leaders are focused on solutions - not partisan divide. Christine Cohen is someone who recognizes the importance of local, community representation and approaches issues with a bipartisan sensibility that I find refreshing.
Just recently, as Senate Chair of the Transportation Committee, Christine Cohen worked alongside Mayor Joseph Carfora and the bipartisan East Haven Legislative Delegation to help secure $780,000 for improvements to Messina Drive to improve sidewalks and traffic signals. This is a perfect example of leaders coming together to solve a problem and make a tangible difference in the lives of the community they represent.
Christine Cohen voted to cut income taxes for working families for the first time in decades. She voted for a budget that provided additional tax relief for seniors on their pensions and preserved the tax exemption on Social Security for certain filers. Christine Cohen voted to invest in children’s mental health services and early childcare, and she voted to improve oversight of nursing homes and enhanced quality of home-based care so seniors can age comfortably and safely wherever they choose.
Christine has been in the State Senate for six years but has only represented East Haven for the last two, and in just two short years, she has truly made a name for herself in our community. I am continually impressed with her down-to-earth approach and her ability to work together to get results.
This November, I’ll be voting for Christine Cohen.
