Can Happen Again

On June 20, a very important event took place at the Guilford Community Center. Specifically, the premier of the documentary Ignored and Disrespected, (Just the facts about how Guilford First Selectman Matt Hoey succeeded in bringing a methadone clinic to Guilford on his own without any public notice, without any public input, without any impact studies, and without any background checks into the APT Foundation or the impact their methadone clinics have had on other communities) was shown. This documentary and the trailer for this documentary are now available on YouTube. I encourage all concerned Guilford residents and businesses to watch these videos, which can be accessed by going to www.youtube.com and searching for “Ignored and Disrespected.”

The three main takeaways from the event on June 20 are as follows: First, 29 Guilford town officials were invited to come to the event, watch the documentary, and then participate in a Q&A with the concerned citizens and businesses in Guilford regarding the APT methadone clinic. Invitees included Hoey, all the members of the Board of Selectmen, all the members of the Planning and Zoning Commission, all the members of the Ethics Commission, all the Building Department Heads, the Town Planner and the Town Counsel. Only two, Selectmen Sandy Ruoff and Lou Federici, RSVP’d that they could not attend; no response from the others, and none showed up to answer questions.

Second, Hoey invited the APT team to his office in March 2023, discussed the properties they eventually bought at this meeting, and agreed to keep the purchase of these properties confidential, knowing that once these properties were purchased, nothing could be done to stop the APT methadone clinic from opening.

Third, this can happen again unless the Guilford planning and zoning regulations are amended.
