05/08/2024 08:00 AMThank you for a very successful free tree giveaway on April 27. We gave away 50 beautiful trees from a local nursery. First Church of Christ Congregational Church graciously offered the use of the parking lot and provided advertising support; Grace Episcopal gave us permission to use their parking lot for the volunteers; the Town of Old Saybrook Land Use Department and Parks and Recreation cheered us on with much support and advice; the Community Foundation of Middlesex County, Patronicity and Sustainable CT were invaluable fundraising partners; Old Saybrook Democratic and Republican committees, groups and associations spread the word and helped to raise funds and attract tree recipients.
The SOS Team of over 15 people joined together to pull off a wonderful event that will add to Old Saybrook’s Tree Canopy with ultimate long-term benefits for everyone, such as clean air, lowered surface temperature, energy savings, enjoyment of wildlife, rainwater consumption, property enjoyment and an increase in the overall quality of life. SOS Trees is encouraged that Old Saybrook residents and property owners will join in our effort to protect and build the community’s tree canopy.
