Concerned

I'm concerned that State Representative Dave Yaccarino's fundraising tactics are putting his fellow veterans in a difficult position.

Rep. Yaccarino emailed the Senior Commander of American Legion Post 76 last week, asking for campaign donations. As a Navy veteran and 14-year elected official, Rep. Yaccarino is well aware that the Legion is non-partisan and can't support candidates in an election. This is so core to the Legion that it's written into Article II of its Constitution.

I fear that our Senior Commander was either unaware of this prohibition or felt pressure from a senior political official when he sent the fundraising solicitation out to our 600-plus members. Either way, it is regrettable that Rep. Yaccarino put them in this position.
