10/25/2023 08:00 AMCarol Jones is the first selectperson we need in Deep River. I have lived in town for over 35 years. In today's municipal environment, complex issues require insight into the innumerable options to ensure Deep River remains a great place to live. In this environment, open-minded, level heads will always prevail. With two of the three elected officials leaving, it will take an outsider years to come up to speed. Carol has been involved in the operation of the town for at least 20 years, knowing the ins and outs of local and regional departments.
We must remember that municipal government is not a business. A business typically produces products that consumers want and makes money. To make a simple analogy, if the town leaders proposed to close the Transfer Station, the outraged residents of all political parties would storm the town hall. Now, compare this to the closure of the Citizens Bank, a large taxpayer, where the nearest office is in Westbrook… not a peep was heard.
Carol has been leading the charge on Deep River Sustainability CT. A group that promotes environmental as well as equity inclusion and the arts. She has been a tireless Parks and Recreation Committee leader, supervising several programs such as summer camp, basketball, and other town-wide events. Carol advocates for public education; her four children are a testament to this commitment.
I notice Carol's campaign is fact-driven, as Carol is not bigheaded. Carol is well-educated, possessing a wealth of institutional knowledge of every town department. Carol has attended dozens of town meetings involving all aspects of town government. Moreover, Carol fails to dispense drama, is always positive, and is well-liked by her peers. I am supporting Carol for first selectman.
