10/18/2023 08:00 AMI am writing to enthusiastically endorse my friend and colleague, Cathy Miller, for re-election to the Madison Board of Education.
Cathy was a teacher for many years and then an English language arts (ELA) coach, training and supporting other ELA teachers. She brings a host of positive influences and perspectives to the Board of Education, helping us to navigate our oversight role from a sensitive and sensible viewpoint.
A valued and valuable member of the Personnel Committee, Cathy helps us thread the needle between attracting and retaining the best educators through competitive pay and benefits, on the one hand, and managing our budgets to keep faith with the taxpayer, on the other hand. Her keen industry insights inform our work and help us show appreciation to our incredible staff.
On the Curriculum and Student Development Committee, Cathy helps support strong academics. She is mindful to preserve our unique Curriculum Development Model, which is often emulated by other districts. She advocates for professional development to prepare our teachers with best practices to impart knowledge to our students. Cathy has been a steadfast supporter of Social Emotional Learning (SEL), recognizing that SEL is paramount to addressing the mental health crisis facing students in our district (as throughout the nation). She endorses SEL as one important tool to help promote a positive school climate and keep our schools safe. Significantly, Cathy is a tireless advocate for maintaining strong special education programs that help us meet our motto of “Every Child…Every Day…”
I have been honored and privileged to work alongside Cathy. Her experience as a teacher and ELA coach brings a viewpoint to the board that is informed, refreshing, respected, and needed. Please join me in voting to return Cathy Miller to the Board of Education.
