Committed to Working With the Community

I would like to introduce myself as a candidate for the Killingworth Board of Selectmen (BOS) and ask for your vote on Tuesday, Nov. 7. My name is Joel D’Angelo. I have served on the Regional School District 17 (RSD17) Board of Education (BOE) for the last 12 years and have lived in Killingworth for 15 years with my wife and daughter.

I hold a Ph.D. in biology from Wesleyan University and have been a teacher and administrator at the Hopkins School in New Haven for 20 years. After a 12-year tenure on the Board of Education, where I served as Board Treasurer, Chair of the Finance Committee, and two years as Chair of the Board of Education, I am seeking election to serve the town in a broader capacity as selectman.

I am proud that I have approached every decision posed to me while on the board with sound research and open dialogue, balancing my primary responsibility to the students with fiscal conservatism. The work of our board has transcended party politics and focused on bipartisan collaboration, an approach I will bring to the BOS. I am also a good listener, always.

In addition to working in a bipartisan manner on BOE, I gained an intricate knowledge of the largest item in our town budget, our school balance sheet, along with the school infrastructure issues we face down the road. I bring a science background that will be used as we face environmental challenges now and, in the future, PFAS being one.

I love this town and am committed to working with the Killingworth community to ensure that it retains its small-town charm, remains affordable, and is a place prepared for future challenges. Thank you for considering a vote for me for selectman on Row A.
