10/11/2023 09:53 AMDespite two days of rainy weather, hundreds of book lovers turned out to make the 42nd Fall Book and Bake Sale of the Friends of the Guilford Free Library a wonderful success. As co-chairs of the event, we would like to thank everyone who participated. Home bakers created and donated mouth-watering treats, and volunteers elegantly wrapped each item. Flutist Mimi Dudley once again shared her talents with shoppers. Big Y donated a gift certificate to supply bottled water and snacks for the hardworking volunteers. The library staff worked above and beyond the call of duty.
Members of the Friends sorted tons of books and, with the help of community volunteers, carted them to and from storage. Volunteers served as greeters and cashiers. The Guilford Savings Bank, via the Guilford Foundation, generously helped defray the cost of the tents, tables, and cartage. Kaela Towne designed the handsome brochure showing the sale layout. And, of course, our reading public brought the whole enterprise to a happy conclusion by purchasing the books, DVDs, paper ephemera, puzzles, and other items donated by our patrons.
The $45,000 raised by the sale will help fund the Library’s many offerings, buying print and non-print books, supporting staff development, and funding concerts, lectures, and programs for all ages. Sale proceeds will also help purchase such non-book items as digital subscriptions, museum passes, laptops, iPads, and Wi-Fi hotspots, as well as musical instruments and other items for the Library of Things available to all Library patrons.
Please consider joining the Friends or donating gently used books, prints, maps, or other ephemera for future sales.
