Please Vote for Peggy

I’m writing to ask you to vote for Peggy Lyons as first selectman in November. It’s easy to take for granted what competent administration of town government looks like since Peggy Lyons has been first selectwoman. She has moved projects forward that were once on hold from previous administrations—whether that involved gaining a voter consensus surrounding the use of Academy school, the voter-approved sale of our Island Avenue property to Our Lady of Mercy, or the voter-approved school renewal project. Of course, all these accomplishments took place at a time when we were dealing with COVID-19.

To ensure that the town was accountable to the public, she instituted an Ethics Ordinance and revision of the town charter to ensure a review of town practices being responsive to the citizens.

Her expertise in corporate planning and financial development has served us well in planning for our future as a New England town that wants to preserve our coastal beauty. We are saving for a Coastal Resiliency Fund and ensuring tax benefits and pensions for the volunteer firefighters. We now have an upgraded AAA bond rating because of her direction on how our town funds should be managed.

As a good communicator and advocate for Madison, she has secured over $11 million in funds that have moved important projects forward while saving money for taxpayers. She was the one who initiated and obtained through our state—$4 million in grants for the Academy Center, $2.5 million for the expansion of the firehouse and emergency operations center, $1.3 million for the expansion of our downtown (in addition to having utility lines underground), an additional 5 million American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Funds, have been secured which also has relieved the tax burden on residents.

Please vote for Peggy for first selectwoman in the fall.
