A Great Honor

It has been a privilege to serve on the Clinton Board of Education for the past four years. The experience solidified my faith in the power of local government to make a positive difference in our community.

Board members consistently put labels and affiliations to the side as we seek to provide the best education for children while also doing our best to moderate costs for taxpayers. As chair of the policy committee, I worked with the superintendent and board members to implement new federal and state laws. As a member of the public relations committee, I helped choose the new school and athletic branding. My boys’ experience in the district has helped guide communication with parents and provided insights into how to build upon an already wonderful educational system. Regardless of topic, the back and forth between board members, educated by the superintendent and the public, is always engrossing and lends itself to the best outcome for kids.

There is little doubt that my term on the board has been an extremely challenging one. The pandemic and its impact on our youth is something we will be grappling with for years. I believe my experience as a high school counselor has been an asset in helping craft resources to help our children and educators meet this challenge head-on. My participation in state task forces on post-secondary outcomes and special education has provided the board with insights to further our students’ interests.

My efforts on the Board of Education have contributed to the good work we do on behalf of students and faculty every day. It would be a great honor if the citizens of Clinton would allow me to continue this work for another term. I am asking for your vote on Nov. 7.
