Running for Re-Election

My name is Joan Strickland, and I am running for re-election to the Old Saybrook Assessment Board of Appeals. My 30 years as a certified real estate appraiser and as a real estate broker since 2011 make me uniquely qualified to serve homeowners in this year of re-evaluation.

The purpose of the Board of Assessment Appeals is to hear taxpayer’s real estate and personal property appeals. It will be a busy year ahead for appeals due to the 2023 re-evaluation of properties. Hearings are held from March through May 2024, and scheduling appointments are done in February. During the last revaluation, approximately 180 homeowners appealed their tax assessments.

As a long-time resident who cares about our town, I have served residents as the Democratic Registrar of Voters from 2015 until the present time. In the past, I have also served on the Zoning Board of Appeals.
