08/30/2023 07:11 AMThis letter is in regard to the article “Some Good Moments In Legacy’s Beauty & The Beast”, a theater review written by Karen Isaacs, Columnist for The Sound, and published August 24, 2023.
A theater critic I am not, but after reading the review of this play, I would like to give my opinion.
The performance of Beauty & The Beast was very entertaining. Many of the cast members, as Karen mentioned, were students majoring in musical theater at various colleges. You could see how much they enjoyed portraying their characters.
The Legacy Theater is not a Broadway theater. Given the limited space of the stage, I was curious to see how the background scenery and many of the scenes would be adjusted, especially “Be Our Guest” and the transformation of the Beast. I was not disappointed.
Niko Charney, (Lumiere), Josiah Rowe, (Cogsworth), and Scott Towers, (Gaston) were excellent in their performances.
Kudos to director Kelly Basiden Knudson, in her casting, Cathyann Roding and orchestra, for their music, and Paola Pacheco Rarick for her choreography, given the minimal space the ensemble had to move and dance.
Upon leaving the theater, all you could hear was how impressed everyone was with the show. Several people waited by the stage door to compliment the actors. One couple loved it so much; they stopped by the box office to purchase tickets for the next two plays.
I have attended several of the Legacy Theater productions and have not been disappointed. It is a gem of a place in our little corner of Stony Creek.
