07/26/2023 08:00 AMOn July 5, Stony Creek Brewery had a concert with bands on a national tour. I stood at my property on Terhune Avenue with my decibel meter to measure the sounds from there. I heard the noise ordinance requires levels to be at or below 61db.
In my backyard, levels were consistently over 61db. At the end of Terhune near Birbirie Marina, they measured consistently over 70db; on the bridge, it was 80db. At Meadow and Rogers, it measured again over 65 to 70db, as well as Meadow and Hopson.
Cars were parked on the lawn along the train tracks all the way to the bridge and parked on Terhune. More parked in the lot on Meadow next to the tracks. Cones blocked the underpass.
Town resources were being used — police, fire, and rescue — parked. Who in town do you have to know to get away with this? I’d like to know for my tenants, my one-month-old great niece residing at my home, and my elderly mother who is hard of hearing and could feel bass vibrating through her walls and windows.
This venue was well over capacity and yet was allowed. What is capacity? How many were ticketed as it was advertised as sold out?
These concerts were approved in a residential area with only a tasting license. Something’s off. When communicating with the brewery, residents are told these concerts are approved and a permit issued by the town.
Where should those who pay rent and mortgages park when their clientele park on our quiet dead end?
Who will listen to the people who can’t escape this noise from invading their homes through closed doors and windows?
From infants to the elderly, we object to the continuation of these home invasions.
Who’s listening?
