Monday Morning Quarterbacking

David Roberts decreed: “We Are Being Robbed” (June 15). He didn’t identify the asset being “given away” by the town, and technically “robbery” requires the use or threat of force. Roberts failed to identify the “robbers” in this crime of the century. Are they town officials endeavoring to achieve affordable-housing targets? The frightening “unknown people” whom he foresees “coming to town?” All of the above? With his finger on the pulse of Guilford’s economic armageddon, presumably, Roberts identifies as a “victim” of the town’s criminal willingness to make affordable housing available to “unknown people.”

Roberts should research “workforce housing,” such as that provided by Guilford non-profit Green Planet Company, which develops sustainably designed, affordable-home-ownership projects.

“Monday morning quarterbacking” is easier than playing the game. Shooting spitballs from the sidelines is fun when the “other team” is in office. Complaints needn’t be consistent. Potholes? Complain about potholes... then about traffic while they’re fixing potholes. The First Amendment even allows “internal inconsistency.” Complain about “taxes” and how “unaffordable” Guilford is (under Democrats) - while complaining about affordable housing solutions that would increase the property-tax base.

How big an increase? It matters not... because... why isn’t it more?
