06/29/2023 07:47 AMThe recently approved Guilford Town Budget is not only unnecessarily exorbitant, but it supports and promotes the woke indoctrination of our kids.
For example, the Guilford Free Library, with a 2023-’24 budget of $1,184,938, not only sponsors the Witness to History: Slavery in Guilford speaker series and the Writing Injustice Book Club series but also sponsors the Big Hearts Book Club to explore social-emotional topics with children ages 5 through 8. From the library website, in June, the Big Hearts Book Club will be discussing gender diversity where children will “read picture books about matching what you feel on the inside to how you look on the outside, and guest speakers on the gender diverse spectrum will help lead discussion and answer questions, followed by a rainbow-themed craft activity.”
Also, the approved 2023-’24 Guilford Budget gives $500,000 of Guilford American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds to the Guilford Foundation to distribute “to nonprofits serving Guilford that are still recovering from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic”. Recently, the Guilford Foundation announced its 2023 grant recipients. Included was a grant of $5,000 to the Guilford Anti-Bias Anti-Racist Alliance (ABAR). From their website www.guilfordctabar.com, “Our work [is] to further Anti-Bias Anti-Racist practices within the public school system here in Guilford…We realize that as a predominantly white, cis-gendered community, we are shaped by our privilege and limited ability to fully understand the impact of bias and racism.” The website prominently displays a silhouette graph of children from birth to 6 years old, depicting children’s unconscious bias and how racist they are at each age. They also gave $1,500 to the Jordan Porco Foundation, which encourages kids to visit sites like “the Trevor Project.”
Is this what we signed up for when we approved the Guilford Town Budget?
