06/07/2023 12:48 PMAfter the passing of both budgets on May 10, Clinton's mill rate remained flat, but only because of a strong and successful fight waged by Council Democrats Carrie Allen, Chris Passante, and Hank Teskey. For the past two years, Carrie Allen and Chris Passante have been arguing that our undesignated fund surplus is over the top and should be returned to the taxpayer by using those funds rather than additional taxpayer dollars to pay for capital projects. Last year it was decided upon in the 11th hour by the Town Manager to flatten the mill rate by using those funds, but this year, the 11th hour saw the mill rate going up, despite the overblown rainy day fund. A Democratic motion sent the mill rate cut to a voteāthe Democrats voted unanimously in favor, while two Republicans voted against the motion, and one did not vote. Thank you, Democrats, for doing the work for the taxpayers!
