Continue the Task

Ask any visitor to Guilford and they will likely mention the town’s remarkable collection of historic homes, one of the largest in the country. Respect for the past is in Guilford’s DNA, and the Guilford Keeping Society is just one of several organizations dedicated to preserving the structures that provide a glimpse into how local residents lived and worked in the 17th through 19th centuries. We also provide significant education and camp programs for local students.

Historic preservation is no easy task, however. The Guilford Keeping Society has been busy in recent years replacing windows, restoring woodwork, and painting and restoring its primary assets, the Thomas Griswold House Museum and Medad Stone Tavern, as well as digitizing its vast collection of historic photographs and documents that are now available online.

We’ll be showing off some of that hard work on Saturday, June 11 when we throw the Guilford Keeping Society’s 75th Anniversary Celebration at the Griswold House, 171 Boston Street. This fundraiser will include food, wine, and live jazz and give visitors a chance to tour one of the state’s best-preserved examples of an 18th-century saltbox home and farm.

We invite anyone interested in historic preservation to join us and help continue the task of keeping Guilford’s legacy alive. Tickets are available locally and through our web page www.guilfordkeepingsociety.com.
