08/25/2021 08:00 AMI wish to take this opportunity to publicly thank Michael Zuccarelli for his many years of service to the Town of North Haven and the North Haven Fire Department. Mike served as a fire commissioner in town for a total of 16 years. I had the personal pleasure to have Mike on the commission for 10 years of my tenure as fire chief. During that time frame, with the support of Mike, the department was able to grow significantly. The department implemented a paramedic program, multiple community relations endeavors, and built and renovated four fire stations.
Mike was always a supporter of the fire department. He went out of his way to make certain that the department and the citizens were well taken care of. A Vietnam combat veteran who was a probation officer, a supervisor, and a union leader for the State of Connecticut for more than 30 years, Mike understood the balance between management and union. He was always there to listen and offered great advice to me over the years both personally and professionally.
I have known Mike for more than 50 years and can attest to his character, his experience, and his ability to do the right thing. I am sorry to see his tenure on the commission end.
Whomever the Republican Party decided to nominate instead of Michael Zuccarelli has some pretty big shoes to fill. I again thank Mike for all his years of service.
