A Pleasant Surprise
What a pleasant surprise to see the new “Welcome to Guilford” sign as I recently exited I-95 at 57 North. I understand a similar sign also is now in place at Exit 58 North, and others are planned for the remaining major access points. These signs are beautiful and, in my opinion, couldn’t come at a better time.
In the past, visitors coming to Guilford didn’t have a clear idea of which way to turn or where the Town Green, historic attractions, and marina were located. Problem solved!
Now visitors are welcomed with these beautiful signs—without commercial advertising—that proudly announce our 1639 founding, our National Registry distinctions, as well as the Historic Green, house museums, and Visitor Kiosk.
These beautiful signs should give a timely boost to our local shops and restaurants, as well as promote heritage tourism.
Congratulations to the joint committee that planned and is installing the signs and thanks, too, for private donors who are contributing the funds to make this happen. Donations can be made to the “Guilford Preservation Alliance—Signs,” P.O. Box 199, Guilford 06437.
