A Great Place to Learn

Guilford is an incredible community with valuable assets for all types of people. We have a gorgeous coastline and pristine freshwater lakes. We have world-class hiking trails, delicious dining, and a vibrant arts center. On top of being a great place to live, work, and play, Guilford is also a great place to learn. Guilford Public Schools are among the best in Connecticut, led by Superintendent of Schools Dr. Paul Freeman, who was named the 2020 Superintendent of the Year by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents. This is no small feat and is the result of a superintendent and Board of Education that challenge themselves to provide quality education for all in our community.

I’m proud to have a public school system willing to have challenging and very important conversations about race and equality. We must ensure our education system has a curriculum that not only prepares our children for today’s world, but also teaches a factual representation of history, and not simply fantasy tales we want to hear. It’s encouraging that Guilford is taking action to do just that. Voters approved an education budget that includes the hiring of a part-time equity liaison, as well as a student teacher of color through a residency program with 20 other Connecticut school districts.

Guilford is a great place to live, but also a great place to learn thanks to our friends and neighbors who lead and staff our public schools and amenities.
