A Great Addition
You may have noticed trees being planted on the Guilford Green and streets surrounding the green this spring. As Guilford residents we are extremely fortunate to have individuals and town businesses donate to the Guilford Garden Club Tree Fund. It is due to the donations from the community that the trees can be replaced and planted in Guilford.
This year the tree fund received a substantial grant from The Guilford Foundation to fund the planting of nine trees: four on Fair Street, one on Broad Street, two on River Street, and one on Water Street. Fewer trees would have been planted this year without the grant provided by the Guilford Foundation. Our community benefits from having a strong and generous local organization like the Guilford Foundation.
Trees are important for their aesthetic beauty but also serve a more important environmental purpose. Besides significantly reducing our carbon footprint, trees mitigate flooding, storm water runoff and erosion. Trees also harbor and provide food for animals, birds, and insects—a great addition to the pollinator pathway.
