Best Practices for Trails

Almost a quarter of Guilford’s land area is protected open space, with miles and miles of hiking trails that are maintained largely by volunteers. Now that spring has officially arrived and many more of us are heading outdoors, it’s a good time to be reminded of best practices for using and enjoying these trails.

Trail users should stay on marked trails, whether on foot or on a mountain bike; do not create or use detours around steep sections. Trail users should respect all signs, including those restricting certain trails to foot traffic only—lease do not use motorized vehicles of any kind.

Hikers should keep their dog(s) leashed and everyone should practice “pack it in, pack it out”—including pet waste.

No fires or camping are allowed on Guilford trails.

Trail users should also continue to practice social distancing on all trails and parking areas.
