11/20/2019 07:00 AMOn behalf of the Essex Elementary School Foundation, I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the staff and students at Essex Elementary School for their enthusiastic participation in the artist/historian in residence program funded by the Essex Elementary School Foundation.
The artist/historian, Doug Day, facilitated engaging experiences and workshops to inform the 5th grade class of the rich history of Essex, Ivoryton, and Centerbrook. Students kept research notebooks where they recorded their experiences and used them to write songs, design sets, and prepare for a live musical performance about our three villages.
We are grateful to the many local organizations that helped contribute to the students learning, including the Essex Historical Society, the Connecticut River Museum, Essex and Ivoryton libraries, Essex Steam Train, Mystic Seaport, and the Essex Weeders, who performed a spontaneous song with the students. The foundation is proud to support such a collaborative endeavor and we look forward to enhancing this program in the years to come.
